Boiler manufacturing in Bulgaria begins in 1920, when the workshop Napredak - Steam Boiler was established.
Since 1926 the workshop has specialized in heating and industrial boilers repairs. At the same time it begins production of smoke tube boilers (total heating surface up to 50 sq. m) firing coal. In the same year the "Piperkov & Zorna" company was founded. Initially it installed and maintained central heating systems. Later it manufactured smoke tube boilers, too, but with larger heating surface - 100 sq. m.
After the nationalization of the Bulgarian industry in 1947 the two factories were united into a State Boiler-building Plant named "Georgi Kirkov". In 1950 new workshops and an administration building were built. After its first reconstruction 1967-70 the production raised 10 times. During the second reconstruction in 1978 the boiler enterprise was enlarged to allow stack assembly of heating and industrial boilers for country and export demands.
During the period 1980-1985 a general reconstruction, modernization and enlargement of the plant were made. New workshop was built in which a production line delivered by Babcock-Oberhausen, Germany was installed for gas-tight tube membrane walls. At that time the plant is direct subordinated to the Ministry of Industry.
In the period 01.01.1986 - 30.03.1989 the Kirkov-plant was integrated into the Economic Association 'Heavy Machine-Building'- Radomir. In 1991 the plant Georgi Kirkov was reformed into "Kotlostroene" Ltd.
With Order No.17-240 dd. 23.10.1995 of the Bulgarian Ministry of Industry "Kotlostroene" was changed to EAD (State Joint Stock Company). With the Order No. 5 dd. 17.09.1997 of the Court of Law in Sofia based on the Protocol No.1/17.09.1997 from the General meeting of the shareholders, Kotlostroene has been reorganized into Joint Stoke Company "Kotlostroene".
